This collection was created entirely from images taken during the months of quarantine, isolation, and civil unrest in New York City, during the Coronavirus pandemic March 9- December 22, 2020.
About the collection the artist says:
"The Covid Cellages attempt to collect and archive the events and capture the anxiety and heartbreak of the Covid-19 Pandemic, specifically involving New York City and the Tri State area. Cellage is a take on collage, as each Covid cell is in itself a collage of images from the months of quarantine, isolation, and civil unrest during the pandemic in New York City. There are hundreds of photos I took those early months. I roamed the streets of the city daily to capture as much as I could of the haunting and eerie experience of living in a suddenly still and quiet New York City. The city that never sleeps. As though it were an x-ray image, we see what each cell is made from, where it's been, and where it's going. Each cell a time capsule of sorts, carrying within it remnants of the lives it’s taken, the places it’s decimated, a map of where it’s been and what it’s fed on. Each cellage is a creation born from at least 10 pandemic images, and each has it’s own unique story to tell, specific moments, events, spans of them even, and most certainly people. People who have taken great risk, and people who were not fortunate enough to withstand the virus’ stronghold. The cells are a catalogue, an obituary, a declaration, an acknowledgment, a cry, a plea, a curse, a prayer, a wish. We witness these cells in scenes from the city, highlighting like snapshots the reach they maintain, the saturation they have obtained, and the length of their stay thus far since their debut in late winter. Passed seasons, holidays, and occasions. The scenes present the notion that the virus has become ingrained into our nations DNA and the fabric and spirit of the nation, our way of life, and our identity. "
