PHOTOS: Day of Remembrance

Saturday, November 20th, 2021 was Trans Day of Remembrance. A candlelight vigil and rally was held in Corona Plaza, Queens, NYC and I was fortunate enough to be invited to photograph the event by the event's organizers, Make The Road New York and TrIP Queens. It was a beautiful event with touching and heartfelt tributes to those in the trans community who lives were lost in the past year either to suicide or who were killed by the hands of hateful transphobic aggressors, the likes of which the event aims to eradicate through education, awareness, and community organizing. Local politicians and community leaders also spoke during the rally impressing  upon the crowd the urgency for laws that discriminate against trans people, which still exist even in a city like New York, be changed or repealed. An urgent reminder that the fight for trans rights is far from over. For more information and to get involved in the fight for Trans rights visit Make The Roads website here.

It is my honor to share with you some of my photographs from the Trans Day of Remembrance.

My heartfelt condolences to the families of the beautiful people silenced so tragically. May their deaths not be in vain and their memory live on .
